1996-2003 GM 3.1 or 3.4 V-6 VIN J , E   Engine oil leak / Coolant leak

Condition: Owners comment on an apparent oil or coolant leak.

Cause: Intake manifold may be leaking, allowing coolant or oil to leak from the engine. The oil leak may have been caused if the vertical bolts (front & rear) attaching the manifold were tightened down prior to the diagonal bolts (right side / left side).

Correction: Replace the intake gasket with a new design gasket and tighten bolts as follows:

1)Tighten front & rear bolts to 62 inch lbs.
2)Tighten side bolts to 62 inch lbs.
3)Tighten front & rear to 115 inch lbs.
4) Tighten side bolts to 18 foot lbs.
